An oil catch tank is essential for turbo and high-performance racing applications where excessive blow-by (air and fuel vapor leakage past the piston rings) occurs, creating positive pressure in the crankcase. During engine operation, blow-by gases and oil mist pass through the PCV valve and are rerouted into the intake for the engine to burn off. However, some of the oil mist and by-products settle along the engine intake, forming gunk over time. The oil catch tank collects this oil mist and condenses the fuel vapors, allowing cleaner gases to be passed back into the intake.
